Science Behind DAN!
What is the DAN!
One major goal of the DAN! group was to produce a document for physicians everywhere to use as a guide to the clinical assessment of autistic patients,
leading to appropriate treatment. This document represents a consensus statement of the state-of-the-art
alternative medical approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of autism. The 244-page manual is titled Biomedical Assessment Options
for Children with Autism and Related Problems and costs $30.00 (U.S. Funds).
If you would like to purchase the manual, visit the Autism Research Institute's website at http://store.autism.com/.
The Science
Despite a common misconception, there is a significant amount of scientific evidence to support the use of
specific nutritional and biomedical interventions for individuals with autism.
The Autism Research Institute has put together a wonderful website page entitled
“Research Documenting Biomedical Problems in Autism – February 2009”.
There you will find the following index links to citations describing emerging findings in autism research,
which include:
- Autism and the Brain;
- Autism and Detoxification;
- Autism and the Gastrointestinal System;
- Autism and Mitochondria;
- Autism and Oxidative Stress;
- Biomedical Treatment;
- Genetics and Autism;
- Immune System Dysfunction and Treatment;
- Nutritional Deficiencies, Supplements and Diet;
- Prevalence;
