Career advancement supports for employees on the autism spectrum

We are looking to hear about workplace experiences from employees on the autism spectrum and those who have experiencing supervising autistic employees in the workplace. Your insights will be used in the development of a resource to help employers support employees on the autism spectrum to advance in their careers. This study involves a partnership with Ready, Willing & Able, The Inclusive Workplace, Canadian Autism Spectrum Disorder Alliance (CASDA), and the Centre for Research in Work Disability Policy. The interviews will also result in a publication and form part of a PhD thesis.

Who can participate: 
Autisitcs who are currently, or recently employed, in any industry who can discuss performance management (including impressions of manager feedback, evaluation/appraisal of skills), professional development, and career growth.
Managers who have experience supervising employees on the spectrum who would like to discuss their experiences with performance management, and career growth.

Human resource or disability support managers who have experience integrating employees on the spectrum in the workplace.

What’s involved: 
We are looking for focus group participants from across Canada to share their experiences in a 90 minute discussion on the following topics:

  • Workplace culture, diversity, and inclusivity.
  • The performance management process.
  • Disability disclosure and workplace adjustments.
  • Professional development training, mentorship, and goal setting.
  • Available resources and sources of support.
  • Autistic will have their own focus group separate from managers.

Participants will receive a $40 digital gift card in appreciation of their time.
